'03 XR100 airbox mods

Is there any cheap way to mod my airbox on my '04 XR100, it seems pretty restrictave. new filter? different box?

You can start by removing the snorkel, and getting an aftermarket filter.

I cut out the roof of the airbox, leaving a 1/2in flange. I used a plastic welder to embed screen into the flange, and cut a piece of Uni sheet foam to fit. No oil on the sheet foam, more like a prefilter.

If you do not plan on riding in mud, or while it's raining, you could use a hole saw and cut two one inch round holes in the air box cover. That's what I did. Cut the holes in the cover, not the box. The cover is cheaper and easier to replace then the box. Then remove spark arrestor, jump up 3 to 5 main jet sizes. It sure helps

Oooh ok. I know what your talking about now. I hurd that removing the snorkle changes the carb setings, and makes it run different do to the incress of air flow. Is this true?

yes, you will need to richen the main jet

For an air filter go with an after market like Uni or Twin Air. The air filter will make the make run more lean so you should re-jet.

And get rid of that ridiculious screen that is in the metal filter cage. That thing is crazy restrictive.
