Replacing the gear-shifter seal..

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

A question on replacing the gear-shifter seal.

1.) I have a weeping oil leak from the seal at the end of the gear shift shaft

2.) My bike is a WR426 with 2000kms, and I am kind of surprised that this leak has occurred.

My question is can this oil seal be replaced without the cases being split and the seal replaced from the inner side of the gearbox housing.

I am assuming/hoping that the seal is replacable from the outside.

Clarification would be appreciated.

Yours in WR'ing

Garry

Yes, you can whip it right out of there, by using a strog dental pick. However, it shouldn't be leaking so soon. Did you hit the shift lever, and bend your shiftshaft by any chance? Remember, apply good grease around the new seal, and in the seal lips before installing.
