bent subfram

Recommended Posts

I've fixed several.

Unless it is very bad you should be able to fix it.

I usually place it between two trees. I use ratchet straps, 1 attached to the frame and the swingarm, the other to pull the subframe the way it needs to go.

Slowly put the frame under tension, try to go a little past center because the subframe will spring back when the pressure is off.

Now for the barbaric part. I use a combination of hammers (big ones also known as BFH) and a long 2x4 or 2x6 (you may need to take some plastic off) to further stress the subframe. ?

Prepare yourself to repeat this procedure 6 or 7 times to avoid over fixing the problem on the first time. If your uncomfortable, use the ratchet straps to bring it to center and then release the stress and watch it spring back. Don't worry, if you go to far, just go the other way.

So far, 2 trees in my front yard have assisted straightening about 4 different bikes. ?
