CR500 hard to start

A ny tricks or mods to make starting this thing easier? its a 94 cr500..

I have had 3 CR500s, all have started easily.

Gas on

Choke on

4 slow kicks just to get fuel to carb

TDC

Kick

Fires every time, even when cold

On my buddies CR500, after he chokes it, he puts it in gear, rocks it back and forth to help suck fuel into the carb, then kicks it.

It should start up pretty easily.

Could be worn reeds. Or just your starting drill...

either your Pilot jet is clogged or you need to start just how mentioned above, couple slow kicks find tdc and whammo! clogged slow jets are the most common starting problems.

Mine starts easy also!! Reeds??? Old gas??

I'm running a 175 main,55 pilot, 2nd clip, 2 out w/pwk39.

Mine's been a bear lately. I think I'm gonna dig into the reed cage and take a look.

On my CR500s, when cold I would turn on the gas and then lean the bike over until fuel cam out the carb overflow. Then kick with the kickstarter all the way at the top with choke on.

Worked pretty well.

Make sure you jetting is dialed in as well.

reeds are good. I JUST CLEANED THE CARB, ALL STOCK JETTING. wILL TRY RECOMMENDED PROCEDURES. tHANKS FOR THE HELP>

lean the bike over like idahoe said--puts a fresh charge of fuel in the chamber

leaned it over, watched some fuel come out of overflow tubes, started on the first kick...

I just got an 89 CR500 and it is pretty clapped out. I bought it to fix up after cutting up on it this summer Anyway, it was very hard to start even using the procedure listed above. I tore the carb apart and cleaned it and at the same time replaced the reeds so I don't know which helped, but now it starts like a champ. The old reeds were not chipped and looked fine but I replaced them anyway.

I'm gonna have to agree with leaning it over.. thats the first thing i always do if my bike wont start

my cr started every time on the first kick but i rocked it in gear and feeding it some gas start at the very top all the way down every thing at wonce and tada
