floating countershaft sprocket?

Recommended Posts

I noticed the last time I had the chain off my 93 XR250L (only a few days ago) that the countershaft sprocket wiggles around a bit, like it's on a floating mount. Doesn't seem to have rotational play, only back and forth play (similar to the top derailluer cog on a bicycle). Is is supposed to be like this?

there's a thead floating around about this. Worn out rubber bushings in the rear hub was one of the things suggested. There were others, but I don't remember, can't be to old though.

I think you are refering to the rear sproket thread. He is talking about the front one here. Which I am pretty sure is supposed to float. I know some do and some dont. All of my hondas did that but my dads Suzuki Doesn't.

The wiggle allows slight misalignment of the rear axle to occur without wear on the chain and sprockets.
