moby1800 Posted June 6, 2006 It's been a while since I've had chain drive vs a shaft and I'm wondering if my chain guide and roller are working properly. My chain is adjusted properly according to the manual but when I'm riding, I can hear quite a bit of chain noise from it "rattling around". I know it's bad to overtighten the chain and put too much torque on the bearings but should I be able to hear the chain a lot - like a loose side panel rattling? lazybones51 Posted June 6, 2006 are you running the stock chain rollers as they are very noisey
Dave in Tejas Posted June 6, 2006 Mine rattled a lot (i weigh 225) especially with my son on back. I found that removing the rollers, disassemble and clean, then using bearing grease on them quiets them up pretty good. But I'm only riding street.
jrs200 Posted June 6, 2006 yea they are very noisy. Just the upper mainly. Replace it and noise is gone. Here is where i got mine. Works wonderfully. Really good quality and the bolt is included. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Upper-Sealed-Chain-Roller-kit-Suzuki-DR650SE-96-04_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ43977QQitemZ4640960999QQrdZ1
repmuht Posted June 6, 2006 I tightened mine up just a tad from the recommendation. The chain was slapping the swingarm pretty good. Much quieter, and I doubt too tight... You might try tightening just one notch and see how it feels.
