ccoming back to dirt bikes (sorta)

Hey everyone, it has been a looooong time since I wrote on this forum. I had an 04 CRF250R (hence my user name), but after a bad crash in a race in early 04, I had to stop. Anyway, I have been riding my streetbikes (CBR 600 and Harley davidson 883R) but am getting the itch again. Because of the area I now live in for college (northern california) it doesnt make a whole lot of sense to get just a dirtbike since there is only one tiny off-road park, and absolutely no motocross tracks.

Anyway, sorry for rambling, my question is about getting a dual sport to ride around. I was thinking about getting the new DRZ400SM, and getting in some good turn carving, but I dont need to spend that much money. I have always been a honda man so I was thinking that the XR400 might be good for mostly just messing around on the street, and for the occasional offroad trip down the river bank. What do yall think? Are there many cheap-ish but servicable 400's out there?

I live in Arcata (near eureka). I am going to humboldt state. I used to live in san jose, where there was a ton of stuff to ride (metcalf, hollister, carnegie, fairgrounds, club moto, etc.). Obviously a big change.

The Xr4  plated would be best,more money Wr450, DRZ good bike also.I would stay away from Crfs,as they dont hold up compared to the others BTR
