Walker Valley? Whats the scoop

Recommended Posts

Heading to San Juans this Weekend and thought about bringing the bikes to try out Walker Valley with the three kids all under 12. Whats the deal? Is this a decent place for a day trip? I Know nothing about it...............

Walker is a great place to ride, more than enough terrain to keep one busy all weekend, let alone just a single day. The major downside to walker is that there are very few easy/begginner trails, and a large percentage of the trails there are what I would call difficult (perhaps a better rider would not, but they are technical, none the less). If you go ride there, expect a healthy dose of roots, rocks, and log crossings, there is also an extensive network of logging roads out away from the main parking area to explore if the trails aren't your speed. Hope that answered your questions.

Plenty-o-quadsquid near the parking lot on weekends.

The map on the bulletin board is 10 years old and out of date.

Less traffic at the B-1000 (south side) gate than at the Peter Burns trailhead.

Jam Trail near the parking lot is the easiest, but look out for squids.

Judy's grade, up in the middle is kid friendly too.
