Looking for Helmet Cam Advice

I just bought a Canon Elura 100 Mini DV Camcorder and want to get a Helmet Cam. I see lots of brands and a lot of claims. I want the highest quality video possible, and a simple set up. Unfortunately, the camcorder doesn't have a LANC port, but the camcorder does have a wireless remote.

I see a lot of stuff on e-bay, but I'm reluctant to buy without knowing for sure what I'm getting.

My primary goal is to video my kids and friends while riding for playback on TV. I don't really plan on posting on the web unless there's something spectacular captured.

I'm curious to see:

1. What brand others are using (Model, Specs, Etc..)

2. How much you paid

3. Level of satisfaction (Happy, Ok, or Mad)

I really like every thing about the cam just beware of where you upload your video to.

Some of the sites strip the quality down for streaming purposes, like

google.

I use this one as well. It's Mpeg 4 video so it's not as nice as mini DV. But I'm happy with mine after making a few movies. It really does the job I bought it for. I wouldn't say it's dvd quality like samsung claims but it's pretty good. I can get two hours of video on the standard batttery. I have to change a memory card but it can do it.

Oh and the on off button for the cam works perfectly. I couldn't be more happy about that.

I know the more lines it has, the better quality... A 380 line will look like crap compared to a 560 line camera...

Has anyone tried one of these??? On board recording... Looks good, but I would like to see a sample vid...

suade- you're getting 2 hours of video from the standard battery? What is your video quality set at? I'm only getting 1 hour of video per charging and I'm using the fine quality, that's 2 full gig of video for 1 hour.

They are bad quality but you get what you pay for. Retail is $99 so that ebay link is not a good deal even with the 1gig card.

I'm using the high res and super fine quality, the best one( not sure if it was called superfine). I'm using the external camera though. I don't get as much battery time using the display, me thinks.

I used it this past week and recorded 59 minutes with a 2 gig chip, 29 with the internal memory and another 29 with a 1 gig chip. Approx that amount of time. I know for a fact they sell a larger battery for this thing. Finding it is a tough one though.

ya I've been using the external cam and I'm trying to find the bigger battery.

I looked at mine again and it was the vid card getting full not the battery dieing. Thanks for the reply though.

Buy a Sony HC-32 or similar camcorder. Very small and light. $400

And buy a helmet cam setup (580 line for $200), I have the 480 line and Love it!! from www.actionvideocams.com and you are done. No messing around with this or that. There are a million ways to get it done. This is the best and easiest on the wallet in my opinion. And the quality and ease of use is great as well. ?:ride:

I bought the Canon Elura 100 because the reviews were better than the Sony HC-46 that my dad has. I also wanted to stay with SD memory rather than buying a new Memory Stick DUO. The only drawback is neither of these models come with a LANC port. The Canon does have a wireless remote, and I'll have to see how/if that works with the helmet cam. I should have my new 580 kit from Action Video Cams this week.

I imagine I'll waste a lot of tape at first figuring things out, but sometimes that's half the fun!

What do you use to protect the camera?

what ever you do dont buy a tony hawk helmet cam lol... bad idea

I got this camera for $100 and it's just a little better than the Tony Hawk one. It takes pretty decent videos considering the next cheapest helmet cam is like $250 and needs a camcorder to record.

BTW the shakiness is because it's not mounted to my helmet very well. I gotta work on that.
