speedometer error

Recommended Posts

I just took my new GPS for a ride & noticed that the speedometer was off by 5mph. If it said 50 my GPS said 45. This got worse or less depending on speed, but only by a couple of mph. It should be stated that I ride D606's with 14/47 gearing. Just thought you all would like to know.

10% that's about average. Varies a little, mine with trailwings was very near 10% though.

Car dealer told me by law (Ohio?) speedo had to be within 5 miler per with original tires or they had to change speedo cable gear.

Dunno if true or just BS. My speedo is off about that on my S as well.

My other vehicles are out by less than 5%.

There are laws about allowable error they are usually federal but

Europe is very stringent about not reading less than the actual. Over here I think it is +/-. Either they always read high with reasonable tires.
