04 Carb Question

Could someone please tell me the direction in which the pin on the diaphragm of the ACV valve goes (I think that is what it is called - the thingy on the side of the carb held by a cover with two bolts which has a diaphragm and spring in it)? Does the diapragm go on with the pin pointing into the carb or outside the carb? The exploded view of the carb on Yamaha's website is not very clear. Thanks.
