Engine oil weight for DRZ400E?

Recommended Posts

I went to the Suzuki dealer to pick up some oil and a filter for my 03 DRZ400E. I told them I needed oil for my 03 DRZ400E and they gave me Suzuki 20W-50. (I don't have a manual)

When I got home I started surfing and found my manual online. It says that I should use 10w-40, but it says you can also use other weights, including 20w-50, as a replacement.

Is it ok to use 20W-50 rather than 10W-40? We ride in temperatures ranging anywhere from 40 to 100. (They also told me to use this oil in my sons 03 DRZ125L)

It'll be fine, especially for the warmer temps this time of year.

Switch back to the recommended 10W40 in the Fall, as you start to ride in cooler temps.

That's what I was thinking too, but i wanted a second opinion.

If it's warm enough to ride, it's probably warm enough for 20W-50. I'd only swtich if the bike is going to be ridden in below freezing temps.
