525 EXC Bogging off Idle

Recommended Posts

2005 Ktm EXC with:

168 M

42P

JD red #4

1 and 3/4 out on fuel screw

Honda diaphram

Bogs from idle/low RPM, pulls well through mid range. Pops a little on decel. Need to give gas to start.

6,000 to 8,500 in 80 degrees or so.

Any suggestions based on experience?

Your jetting should be pretty close to spot on, although you might want to try JD red #3. You might check valve clearances, make sure that the AP is operating correctly, increase idle speed slightly, and play around with the fuel screw adjustment.

Thanks for the fedback. Turning up the idle seems like a good idea both for starting and perhaps the bog.

Eddie,

If I am corrcet, you sugested I lean out the main and the needle. Can you help me understand how you concluded I'm too rich?

Thanks again for the help.

Eddie,

Based on your testing and expertise, what is you opinion as to why my bike requires a significantly leaner main jet than what JD recommends?

I would hesitate going smaller than a #165 main jet on a 525 with the JD needles and stock intake system. My 525 (540) EXC runs very well at high elevations with a #168 main jet.
