Any cool trails around Chicago, South WI?

Recommended Posts

Looking to take the wife and kids for some trail riding over a weekend. Need cool, easy trails (we did some of BR but a bit too technical for her 150 at times).

Isn't there a chain of trails somewhere in South Wisconsin?

Thanks guys!!

The "Cheese trail" is OK, but it leads alot to be desired if you're riding with a family. Bong recreational area may be more of what you are lookng for, with loops, the cheese traill goes from Monroe Wis to towns up the trail 30 to 40 miles away. In Illinois there is a new DNR facility at Rt2 and Mainstreet called Rocky Glen in Rockford, and Buffaloe Range near Ottawa. Call ahead for all of them. They ALL have websites.

Cheese country trail is ok but a little boring as far as terrain goes(railroad grade) 47 mi

Bong State Park is another alternative but it's quite tame as well. 8 mi

You could try Rocky Glen in Rockford. I've never been there but it looks like it's got decent trails. http://www.rockyglenohv.com/thepark.html

If you hit Rocky post your riding experience.

Thanks for the info Old Time Biker nd Bultaco206; we have tried Bong last year and it was a mad house, with way too many people who had no clue about dit bikes or ATV and riding flat out, shirtless, cigarette on and who had no sense of safety, riding way too fast around kids, beginners or women. Very dangerous. I think Bong would be cool on a weekeday, when it is empty. The problem is that the loops are too small, they get boring pretty fast.

We have done BR (we actually hang out there a lot). I am intersted to go check Rocky Glen, but those "Cheese Trail" Seem interesting: the wife wants trail-riding and camping for her 40th!!!

Any one knows if LTM has a small network of trails too?

Thanks guys.

You can camp right on the Cheese country trail in Darlington. One thing the Cheese trail has is nice scenery.

Watch your speed on the the cheese trail. Just do whatever the speed limit sign says. DNR has a quad (at least one) that has radar. And they do give tickets.......

30 MPH on the main trail. Down to 10 MPH on some bridge crossings and through the towns.

And also keep your silencer to 96dbs. They they have db meters and will think nothing of stopping you if you sound even a hair to loud.
