check the tab on the float that pushes on the valve. They can get a dimple worn in them that binds the valve and it hangs up and doesnt push the needle up to close the flow. If that little tab is worn, you have to replace the float because the work required to save that part isnt worth the cost of the part in the end. While youre at it, but a new needle and seat too. Ask what the proper float level is while at the shop and check it with the carb mounted and fuel running to it. Dont do this with a lit cigarette in your mout...

Question: Is the float sticking at the hinge or is the float valve needle sticking in its seat?

Sometimes, fuel will leak into the float and it will sag in the fuel bowl. Also, things will go crazy if there is play, debris, burs, or varnish on the hinge parts. If there is a groove around the float valve needle it will stick in the seat. It might be time for new parts.
