xr400 air filter frame

Recommended Posts

Recently took out my air filter to clean and re-oil. Looking at the air filter frame, a poorly-welded construction of aluminium bar, it did not seem very good at trapping the foam element against the filter box housing. In fact, even after several mounting attempts, ther still seemed to be areas, especially at the hard-to-reach rear, where the frame would not trap the filter at all, leaving a little air gap.

Is my filter frame standard? Is there a workaround to this?

My filter isn't standard, it's a 'white performance' filter, on the bike when i bought it. Looking at the contact area, there are definate 'dropout' areas where the filter just is not trapped by the frame.

Help!

I assume your filter is one supplied by White Bros. Some aftermarket filters do not fit well and seal properly. A UNI filter and cage work very well and is not expensive. A gap in the seating area is just like having no filter at all.
