KTM initals stands for?

Recommended Posts

Dumb questions, the Letters KTM stands for who or what?

I read that a 200 has just under 40 HP in a older post, How much is the 250 or 300 MXC or EXC compared to a Japanense 450 fourstroke?

Kronreif and Trunkinpolz started the company, in Mattighofen, Austria.

from ktmtalk:

KTM is the initials of the two company founders (Ernst Kronreif and Hans Trunkenpolz), and the location of the original factory (Mattighofen, Austria) - Hence - "Kronreif, Trunkenpolz, Mattighofen".

The first production KTM motorcycles were produced in 1953 (hence the '53' logo you see on some of the Hard Parts apparel). In 1968, the Penton "Six Days" model was produced for export to the USA, and in 1970 KTM began producing their own engines (they had been using Sachs engines in the past). 1978 saw the establishment of "KTM America, Inc." in Ohio, and 1982 began the development of a water-cooled 4-stroke engine (which later became known as the LC4, for "Liquid Cooled 4-stroke).

In 1991, the KTM parent company filed for bankruptcy, and was divided into independent successors for their various products (motorcycles, bicycles, radiators and tooling). In 1992, KTM GMBh (the new motorcycle division) opened its doors under new management, with new motorcycle designs and a "Hard Enduro" concept. In 1995, KTM acquired both Husaberg and White Power (WP) suspension as subsidiaries.

1999 saw the opening of a new factory, and production of the RFS (Racing Four Stroke) 400 and 520 models, which (with minor refinements) pretty much brings us up to the present, and also answers the question "What does RFS stand for?"

Keep Two Motorcycles (for when this one breaks)

Keep The Motor (find a linked suspension frame)

KaTooM! (The sound it makes just before you need to ride the other motorcycle.)

I've noticed that Enduros look like KTM owners rallys.

Here's some oldies but goodies..

Kick Ten Minutes

Kick Till Morning

Kick That Mongrel

Keeps Taking Money

My KTM 2-stroke is like new, but it usually starts in 1 kick most of the time, 2 kicks if I blow it, 5 kicks if I'm acting retarded (once). Compared to my XR400, 5 kicks is just saying hello.
