When you are downloading the torrent file, you are also uploading the file at the same time to others on the internet. This is file sharing. When your file finishes downloading, you will see a share ratio in the dialoge box. If you quit the torrrent program before that share ratio gets to 100%, people that are in the middle of the download get stuck and can't finish. The more people that upload/seed beyond 100%, the faster the file sharing becomes for subsequent people that are downloading/uploading.

So in other words, don't end the torrent program just because you have finished your download. The whole system relies on everyone sharing the file to 100% and beyond.
