Repacking Yosh Rs3 SS

Recommended Posts

Has anyone here repacked their yosh can? I seem to be having an extra hard time getting the inside deal to slide out, any tricks??anything. I also have a small dent in my can, I don't think that would hinder taking the inside the can apart. You can see a pic. of my can(with dent) in my garage. Thanks everyone, TT Rules!! :ride::thumbsup:

I read somewhere that the rivets holding the Yosh name plate protube inside the muffler and sometimes make it real hard to pull the thing apart...

Does anybody know what is the repacking interval on the Yosh Ti?

You have to drill all the rivets, even the ones on the yosh plate and then pull apart. Remove the old material, wrap the new fiberglass around it, secure it with a peice of masking tape. Here is the fun part, you can't use regular old rivets because they won't seal the can. Contact a Yosh rep ( I am sure that there are soem that are supporters of the site), they can clarify this procedure better than I can and get you the parts you need.

Ordered the pillow from yosh, I asked the "tech expert" and he told me to nothing about removing any rivets on the can. He did mention the word "wrestle" with it. Maybe I won't worry and when I'm not riding in the winter, send it in and have them put a new sleeve on with the packing. Thanks for everyones replies!

I'm getting ready to repack my RS3 Ti can, and was wondering if anyone had dealt with the replacement rivets issue. I was stated above that you can't use regular rivets...will yosh sell you the proper rivets?

Cali-DRZ.....How did the RS3 SS repack go?

Ositech,

Have not done the repack yet. Not sure about the rivet deal. I would call Yosh. up and ask the same q's I did and compare. Keep me posted, I want to repack.

The dent has probably made the insert a bit tighter, just give it a yank.

It could also be corroded, alloy and stainless will corrode together.

From your pics it looks as if you have no rivets to deal with, just bolts.

OSITECH, If your Ti is riveted you just need closed end pop-rivets, you should be able to get them from any fastener specialist, widely used in the aircraft industry.

I repack mine every six months...I use the inexpensive MOOSE Fiberglass repack material for $6. Using that there is no need to remove the rivets...Simply wrap the core with the fiberglass then use thin wire (I use an old reel of wire from a Xerox copy machine from work that had an autostapler)...Wrap the wire around the fiberglass to hold it in place and reinsert. You should only have problems with the protruding rivets if you use the original Yoshimura blanket type of repack as that one is really thick and difficult to insert.
