Want a 16 tooth front sprocket (I think)

Recommended Posts

I am having a heckuva time finding a 16 tooth front sprocket for my 06 DRZ400S, a couple places have taken my order then they call back in a day stating they cannot get that part.

I can't be the only one who wants a little lower R's on the freeway.

Any suggestions?

Muchas gracias,

Jv

How fast to you go on the freeway? I run everyplace WOT with stock S gearing and rarely bounce off the rev limiter.

If you can find a 16T sprocket it is a pain to install as there isn't enough room to install it with the chain buffer installed & I believe you would need to cut away part of the buffer for clearance. Look real close I think you will realize how hard oit will be. Just buy a 41 rear sprocket it will do about the same thing with no hassle.

Thanks guys, not so much about higher speed as lower RPM's or maybe it's just that I have no idea of what to expect as far as "safe" RPM's.

I usually cruise 60-75 and it just seems like it might be spinning a little high for a 200'ish mile transit on the freeway.

I think I'll just swap to the 41 rear.

Thanks again

stock S gearing is fine. The motor was designed to rev. Most people run 15/47 for a compromise. I think a 16 (even if it fit) would be too high of gearing. You would lose all of the low end torque.

If your only reason to change the gearing to "take it easy" on the motor, dont, it will be fine.

Why not just change the rear? Then you'll be able to retain the case saver around the front sprocket.

I'm running the 15/40 set-up with 17" SM wheels and it is working out great.

Check with Sprocket Specialists, they are here in Northern CA and they can make you pretty much any sprocket that you want.

I ordered my 40 tooth rear from them and it took about 2 weeks for a custom order.
