rear suspension freeplay

Recommended Posts

The small amount of freeplay that is normally present when the rear tire is off the ground when you lift up slightly on the swingarm has gone.

The suspension seems to work fine and all bearings are good.

What is this freeplay from and what has happend?

I'd say a tiny bit might be normal. If i had to guess, it's the linkages moving just a bit before it puts pressure on the shock.... but when i say a tiny bit, i mean a tiny bit.

There should never be any free play in the suspenders. The spring should always be under compression. If your had freeplay before it was not supposed to be their. Check the the locking rings on your rear shock.

If I understand correctly, you are referring to free play (maybe 1/16" or so) that you can feel when lifting the wheel when the bike is sitting on a stand. If so, this free play usually is a result of worn spherical bearings on both ends of the shock.
