GPS Q? Is the Magellan eXplorist 300 any good?

Recommended Posts

Like the title says, I found a deal on them but I dont know the first thing about buying a GPS. I'd use it for tracking rides mainly.

Magellan 400 or better with a SD capablity,

Magellan seems to pick up better then Garmin, Garmin is more user friendly, I have a Magellan Meridian Gold with a 128 MG SD card and the mapping software. I have the entire state of California and a third of Nevada on mine. Ram mount and you will never be lost.

Meridian gold is under 200 dollars, a great deal

Check out gpscity.com or just google

One thing to consider is whether or not you intend to use data supplied by organized events. Here in SoCal all of the D-37 events only support Garmin format.

I have the Exp 300 and it works well. It has more features than I need IE:Altimeter, compass,Barometer,Temp,Tracking. The duribilty is great and the low cost with built in maps works out well. There are much better GPS units out there but this unit will keep you from getting lost as well as any.

I received the explorist 300 as a gift. I returned it for the Garmin gps 76csx. I found the garmin had better maps and easier to use. Hope this helps
