KLR250 suspension adjustments

Recommended Posts

Anyone fooled around with the suspension adjustments on the KLR250? What results? Any adjustments found best for street use? For off-road use? I know that the rider weight is a key variable so please include. Thanks.

An experienced competitive off-roader and professional motorcycle technician told me, "Rear sag should be 1/3 the full suspension travel;" this measurand translates to 3" on a KLR250.

With full gear (helmet, boots, etc.), I mounted the bike, and successively adjusted the rear suspension until my riding weight compressed the spring 3" from its unladen height (measured from a benchmark from a frame part on the wall, comparing "before" and "after" until the 3" displacement figure was met).

Next step . . . well, could be several. My advisor suggested changing the oil level in the front forks, making them stiffer; effecting a similar rebound to the rear suspension . . . further, installation of Progressive front springs . . .
