Chain recomendations

I have been out of the dirt bike loop for years and purchased a used 2003 KLX400S to get back into it. What brand/ type chain is the best for off-road? DID? RK? O-ring or X-ring? Gold or No-Gold?

Also I noticed that the good old master link is not used on all chains anymore. Tools for riveting the chain together?

I sue the good old master link with clip and carry a spare in the tool kit. I have never had one fail. I use a DID high tensile strength O-ring chain made for liter-class sport bikes. Many like gold and x-ring ect.... choice is yours but dont go without sealed bushings (o-ring or similar) as there is no advantage but the short-term price

non o-ring chains still have a market on race bikes where their lower resistence and lighter weight are key

that said for most if not all of us I'd stick with the standard sealed design.

Check with Rocky Mountain MC. They carry Primary Drive O-ring chains that are priced pretty reasonable. Master links are used on all the aftermarket chains. Welcome back!!!
