crf450x shock lowering

Recommended Posts

I need to lower my 450x about an inch, I've thought about the kouba link, and raising the forks in the clamps. But looking at the shock clevis I don't see why I can drill another hole 1 inch higher than stock, there seems to be plenty of room/clearance left on the clevis, If it works out, I would cut off the remaining underhanging clevis. Does anyone see a problem doing this?

Yes, when you decide to sell the bike or don't like the lower ground clearance. Your better off to have a spacer installed inside the shock that limits the extension of the shock. Its easillly reversed. And you get new oil and nitrogen at the same time!

Use a spacer inside the shock. Just make sure that it doesn't restrict the rebound oil bleed hole in the shaft. Approx 8mm spacer will be close to 1". Make sure to get the frt. down too. Doing this tho, does mess with handling some (different linkage ratio pressures etc.) so some careful valving & set-up is required for max. benefit.
