Music while riding

Recommended Posts

I don't know if any of you have ever listened to music while you're riding, but my brother does on a regular basis and he says he loves it. He says it helps you kind of get into a groove. So I decided that I'm going to try it, but of course I can't just do it the normal way.

For him, he puts on some headphones and puts his iPod on his waist with a belt clip. Seems easy enough, but I think I've found a better way to do it. Everytime he takes off his helmet he has to be super careful not to rip off his ears since the headphones are still on them. :applause:

So here's my genius way: I mounted a pair of the headphones that have the clip on them for each ear (not the small ear buds that come with iPods or the ones with the band that goes around your head) in my helmet by putting velcro on the headphone itself and the other side of velcro in the ear pocket of my helmet.

I worked on positioning them in the right spot and they work really good, at least sitting on my couch! :ride:

The speakers stay in the ear pockets and I tuck the chord up and under the helmet liner and drop it out the back.

To make it all self-contained I want to figure out a way to mount a small mp3 player in or on the actual helmet. My first idea was to find somewhere behind the liner but that seemed to dangerous in a crash and there isn't any room to boot.

I think I'm going to mount it at the very bottom of the helmet right along where the back of the shell meets the bottom moulding. I know Travis Pastrana used to wear one that mounted like this, so it obviously works, but I'm just not sure on how to mount it. I don't want to drill into the shell or anything that might weaken the structure of the shell, but I don't know if just using velcro would be good enough.

I currently have an iPod video but that's too big and too expensive to have on the back of a helmet :applause: My plan is to get a iPod shuffle which holds up to 120 songs for the $70 version.

I guess the reason I posted this was to get your guys feedback on the idea and maybe some ideas on how to mount the mp3 player itself. I could just clip it on the waist of my pants or to my arm or something, but that isn't nearly as cool as having it all mounted on the helmet with next to none of the chord showing.

Also, I wanted to post this so if you guys are talking to me and I'm not responding it's because I'm rocking out and can't hear you!

I got a 1gb creative labs zen micro mp3 player for 65 bucks at newegg. I did ride one time with headphones on and a cassette player but it ate the tape after i stopped. It seems to relax you alot more, i get so tense when i ride fast i wear myself out too early. I think thats why im a good mud rider, it calms me alot, i hate mud and will avoid it at all costs most times, but for some reason i race well in it.

Im trying to configure them to fit in my helmet also.

If you ride with a hydration pack or something similar you could put your mp3 player etc... in one of the pockets zip the zipper so there is just enough room for the cord to fit through. Plus if you crash the mp3 player will be more protected than on your waist or anywhere else. Another bonus is that most packs are fairly waterproof so you wouldnt have to worry about the player being exposed to the elements as much. Hope this helps  And I almost forgot if the cord is long enough run it under your jersey so it doesnt catch on any branches or things that could snag it.

I love listening to music on my iPod when riding. It makes me get a little crazy. Make sure you do pay more attention to riding than the music. I always went the easy way, put the head phones that came with my iPod into my ears, and put my helmet on, ran the cord down my the inside of my jersey connect to my iPod on my waist clip.

Where does the turntable go?:ride:

Above the reel-to-reel. That way it is subject to less vibration.

If this doesn't pump you up, I don't know what will....

Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk,

I'm a woman's man: no time to talk.

Music loud and women warm, I've been kicked around

since I was born.

And now it's all right. It's OK.

And you may look the other way.

We can try to understand

the New York Times' effect on man.

Whether you're a brother or whether you're a mother,

you're stayin' alive, stayin' alive.

Feel the city breakin' and everybody shakin',

and we're stayin' alive, stayin' alive.

Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive, stayin' alive.

Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive.

Well now, I get low and I get high,

and if I can't get either, I really try.

Got the wings of heaven on my shoes.

I'm a dancin' man and I just can't lose.

You know it's all right. It's OK.

I'll live to see another day.

Life goin' nowhere. Somebody help me.

Somebody help me, yeah.

Life goin' nowhere. Somebody help me.

Somebody help me, yeah. Stayin' alive.

Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk,

This song makes me want to do a backflip nac nac over a triple.

Sea Of Smiling Faces

Yesterday was history who knows what there is gonna be when we meet again

Will you smile and tell the world about me

Can there be no doubt about me I was your friend

As I gaze upon a sea of smiling faces

Walk amongst the glow of moonlit places

The look in your eyes, to see your smile

Won't bring you back to me

I remember things we planned

The world would never understand but we found a way

And the world of love you gave to me

Each moment is a memory, whatever they say

As I gaze upon a sea of smiling faces

Walk amongst the glow of moonlit places

The look in your eye, to see you smile

Won't bring you back to me

For the look in your eye, to see your smile

Won't bring you back to me

Yesterday was history who knows what there is gonna be when me meet again

Will you smile and tell the world about me

Can there be no doubt about me I was your friend

As I gaze upon a sea of smiling faces

Walk amongst the glow of moonlit places

The look in your eye, to see your smile

Won't bring you back to me

For the look in your eye, to see your smile

Won't bring you back to me

For the look ....(repeat lines and fade out)
