How do INSURANCE agents classify different bikes???

Recommended Posts

When it comes to driver's insurance, there are several ways that insurance agents classify motorcycles. What are some bike specific and engine displacement specific categories insurance agents use?

For example:

50cc-250cc category one?

250cc-400cc category two?

400cc-600cc ???

and so on?

Does the type of bike rate in the calculation as well?

Dual sport - less expensive?

Cruiser - more expensive?

Sportbike - most expensive?

Any of you that have the information please share with the rest of us, as I'm sure I'm not the only one that has this question.

Thanks in advance...

Yes there are classifications and some are more $ than others which is why before buying anything that needs insurance it is a good idea to call your insurance company.

Not sure how things work in the Cayman Islands though.

Every insurance company is different. There are many different variables to choose from in rating for motorcycle insurance. Engine displacement, age of the bike, age of the driver, mileage, driving record, type of bike, cost new on the bike, etc. Each insurance company will file, with the states they operate in, their list of rating factors.

I underwrite insurance, but not motorcycle insurance, so I sort of know what I am talking about.
