one of my riding spots.

Recommended Posts

here are some pics of one of my private riding trails. it is in tioga county, pennsylvania. my father and i have a camp and some property up there. it is a quad trail blazed by my father and neighbors. i have been trying to lower my times and raise my skill on a bike through here. i figure i will be able to enter some off road races if i can master this trail. my camera is having some focusing problems, and the forest is a little dark in spots. the trail was a little muddy this past weekend. it is normally pretty dry, except for an area called the swamp(cause it is wet all year round). i hope you all enjoy and can picture yourself going down the trail.

after leaving camp you go over the mountain, up the power line. turn left and enter the woods for the stream crossing. after crossing the stream there is a sharp incline(in the shadow) and turn to the right. then a quick left and enter the small field

this is looking back at the stream crossing entrance

after going through the small field you enter the woods again.

after a rocky entrance into the woods, there is a couple lazy turns taken at a good speed. after about 50 yards there is a sharp left. there is a good sized hump to go over while turning. kind of hard to see in the pics(second one is a closer look)

after the hump there is a 75-100 yard speed straight. then you hit a deep mud and water section called the swamp. notice the slight bend in the middle of the rutted out swamp(i eat a lot of mud here). this part of the course is giving me a lot of trouble. too much speed or not enough. the almost 180deg turn at the exit doesn't help.

tried to get a closeup of the mud.

this is the exit of the swamp. i have over shot this turn many times.

after the swamp exit there is a nice straight filled with rocks and roots. downed limbs are pretty common as well. second pic is a close up of the trail

after the straight there is some lazy turns, then an up and down section. again filled with rock and roots. the second pic is after the sharp right turn, going up the incline to the next turn.

once to the top of the incline it levels off some. there is another short speed section

http://putfile.com/pic.php?pic=main/8/22315105425.jpg&s=f10

this section is normally dry. not hard pack, but a loose dry. it is at the end of the short speed section.

this is where 2 trails cross, again not usually this wet.

go down the trail a little further and you come into a section full of mountain springs. sometimes dry, sometimes wet.

a little further down the springs section

after the sharp left turn another nice straight. after going down the straight there is a turn around. then you go back through. we are going to try to make some new trails, and ad to this one. maybe make it loop back through another way to the small field.

it is a pretty technical course for me. tight woods, a lot of elevation changes, loose rocks, and mud. i am used to hay fields, logging roads, and wide open, hard packed woods trails. the trail is .7 miles long. when dry my best time from the small field in and back to small field (.5 miles) is 3:46, with the mud like it was, a big DNF. i only did a small portion at the beginning. i had to go so slow and creep though. my tires were caked in mud and i had no traction. but it will only make me better. ?

Looks like it doesnt get riden on much.

i live in gettysburg, pa. the trail is 3-4 hrs north, at our camp. i only make it up 1-2 times per month. the rains wash a lot of stuff away between trips. the pictures were taken before i rode that weekend.
