Washougal First

Recommended Posts

Well today I went and did it for the first time in my life (and I am old), I rode on a motocross track! I rode at Washougal, on my XR400. It was just a practice day but it was the first time I had ever rode "motocross". It was fun but the old XR is just too heavy for it. At first I was going really slow because I did not know what to expect, and after the third session I was getting some pretty good air on the table top. I am know match for anyone else out there that has been riding in mx, but it was still fun. I think the whoops is what just wore me out. I had to go slow because the suspension just is too soft for that, almost got bucked off a couple of times. May have to sell the old XR for something else!!!!!:ride: LOL

I took my XR on an MX track for a couple laps this winter. It kicked my butt and the kids were flying by me. Right tool for the right job, right? I think I'll keep the XR on the trails. It was fun anyway, what the hell you only live once.

I'm 40 and have been riding the trails in northern Michigan on my XR400. I love the bike. I've been riding steadily for the last four years. We had to relocate for a job and I just happened to find a house two miles from a local motocross track. I joined the track and rode my XR400 on it and felt that it was about to break in half on some of the big tables. I found a new '04 CR250 still sitting on the showroom floor—cheap. Since it's a 2-stroke nobody that races wants them. I don't race, so I picked it up and wholly crap--it's a big difference. Now I ride the track regularly on it and kept my 400 for the trails. With gas prices where they are, I'm having to cancel trips up north and just ride at the track. So this year I'm not getting much use out of my 400. The track is more fun on an MXer for sure. All you need is an MXer and your trusty 400 for the trails. After riding all summer on an MX track though, I'm wishing for more trail riding. It's tough to justify a weekend up north with the damn gas prices. There's virtually no trail riding where I live.
