Worth the triple clamps?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I accidentally purchased the 1 1/8" Pro Taper Contours for my '03 KX250, but I am only on stock triple clamps, so the fat bars do not fit...What are the pro's to having aftermarket triple clamps? Basically, should I keep the bars and get triple clamps, or should I exchange them for some 7/8" bars?

If you want to keep the large diameter bars, you can get adaptors for about $50. They'll raise your bar height by about an inch.

I've never used fat bars but I suppose they're stronger. Dunno if it's worth the price for a new clamp and everything.

I just switched over to 1 1/18" pro tapers. I bought an adaptor on ebay for about $25. It works great and also raises the hieght of the bars by about 0.75". I'm happy, and it's much cheaper than a new triple clamp.

The rubber mounted top clamp reduces vibration. I noticed the difference.

But when you crash the rubber gets pinched and then it's almost

impossible to get your bars/triple clamp/forks to line up perfectly

again. Unless you put in new rubber of course. Thing is, Pro Taper

won't allow you to just purchase the rubber pieces alone.
