How to Fix Gear Oil Leaking Out Around Shifter Shaft??

Recommended Posts

I've got a 2000 CR250 and gear oil is leaking out past the shift lever shaft. What does it take to replace the seal? Is this something that can be done from the outside or does it have to come all apart?

Thanks in advance for any info. This is a great site. I've been lurking around here for several months and just registered so I could post this question.

RIDE HARD..........rest at work

Real easy...take a small drill bit and drill in the flat of the seal...screw in a small sheet metal screw and pull out with a vise grip. easy. Tdub

Ditto on the how. I would only add one thing, when using a drill bit in motor situation, I always snap a magnet next to my drill bit to catch shavings.

Not much difference between a drywall screw and a sheet metal screw(different "thread"?). The pilot hole just makes it a little easier. Tdub
