450 R and 450X cdi box....

Recommended Posts

When you want to know a general answer to a question like this, go to http://www.servicehonda.com or http://oem.thumpertalk.com/hondapartsindex.aspx and check the part numbers on the factory parts, so of course if the part numbers are different then somethings different and they are not exactly the same. This should partly answer your first question since if they are the same part number then there is no difference.

Sorry I don't know for sure, but you can't always go by the part number. Usually the part numbers are different on the exact same parts from model to model or year to year for the OEM's tracking purposes. Different part numbers from an aftermarket supplier of cdi boxes would be a better indicator of non interchangeable parts.

Off the cuff I would not think that the CRF X and R boxes are interchangeable. I seems to me that the ignition map would have the timing more advanced on the R.

The X would have more electronics to monitor with a charging system, battery, electric starter, and higher output stator...

You could always put a call in to BigGun. Their website does not specify an X or R model on their CRF450 rev box.

I wish I could be more help

The X and R boxes are not interchangeable, they require completely different harnesses.
