Info on mikuni flat slide pumper

Recommended Posts

I have a 2003 Japanese edition DRZ400S that I bought here in Cambodia.

It came fitted with Mikuni flatslide pumper and FMF exhaust.

There are no Suzuki or Mikuni dealers here.

People who import the bikes know very little about the DRZ's

I,m trying to identify the model of this carb and a parts supplier who ships internationally

I did find something similar on the Sudco website.

My Mikuni resembles a TM36 pumper but I suspect there are various TM36 models.

The O.D of my carb manifold -engine end- is 42mm

I.D. 36mm

O.D of adapter manifold to Air box is 58mm, I.D. is 40mm

Pilot jet is 27.5.

I get some backfiring on decel, usually mornings and evenings when atmosphere is denser, so wondering if I should try a bigger pilot jet. (already disconnected PAIR and checked for exhaust leaks which did improve things)

I suspect this might be a more common aftermarket carb in Europe/Asia

Is anyone else using one of these on a DRZ ?

Is there a parts list I can download?

Are these notoriously tempermental carbs to tune the the pilot circuit on?

I asked this in another thread. Guess I should have read the new posts first. The carbs which come stock on the drz are the keihin flat-CR (aka "FCR") in 39mm bore and the Mikuni BSR in 36mm bore. The fcr is a pumper carb, the mikuni isnt. Others commonly found are the Keihin cvk 40 and edelbrock (dont know bore, 40ish mm). There is another pumper with a flat slide: RS availiable in 38 and 40mm, just looking at it on sudco's site. Looks like the carbs that came on old 70's japanese bikes but I have never seen them that big, usually little 30mm (x4) on a 750cc!

What is written and what numbers can you get from the body of the carb? Must be something on it.

I couldnt see any pump on the tm or tmx flat slides. are you sure there's no butterfly valve in the bore between the slide and the engine?

page 40 of the Sudco online catalogue has a picture of a TM36-TM40 carb.

item 67 is the plunger for the acellerator pump.

My carb looks pretty much like this one but not exactly.

All thats written on my carb are "Mikuni"and "racing use only" .

I have a flat slide throttle valve but (unlike the one on page 40 ) mine is guided by a series of small roller bearings down each side.

At this stage I'm sure my carb is a Mikuni 36mm pumper but not sure of exact model

Maybe its a uniquelyJapenese mod ?

You asked about roads in Cambodia on another thread

They are excellent for offroad riding.

For info on riding bikes in Indochina check out www.gt-rider.com for trip reports etc

Of the carbs shown on the Allens website, mine comes closest in appearance to the TM33 flatslide with pumper

However my carb has bearings fixed to the body for super-light operation of throttle valve as per the TDMR /TMR carbs on the Allens site

I dont think the TM33 has these bearings unless there are various models of TM33

on pages 39 and 40 of the Sudco online catalogue it shows diagrams of the TM33 and TM40. Both are similar to my carb but neither have the throttle valve bearings.

thats the yosh offered mikuni.

parts should be available through them

WOW! I had no idea these parts were available! :ride::applause::applause:

I couldn't find the carb listed. Is this a less expensive upgrade from the FCR? It must be good for Yoshimura to use it. Right? ?

Considering my bike is ex Japan, the Mikuni pumper on it could be the Yosh version TMR MJN40 at the link below

http://yoshimura-shop.netmove.co.jp/ap/lscat?p=6/7/0/3&c=4&s=39/113/24/71&t=/c_carb1_e/c_carb1_e/c_carb1_e/c_carb2_e/c_carb3_e&l=en

Its a bit hard to tell for sure from the picture plus the website does not list spare parts

I will send them an email and see what happens.

Does anyone know of an English speaking distributor that sells parts for the Mikuni TMR MJN

flat slide pumper ?

Google searches mainly turn up Jananese and German websites

I found it on a Swiss site priced at 1790 CHF which converts to USD1452
