'86 YZ250 info desired

Hi all,

I am very new here and am in search of some info. I have an '86 yz250 I an in the process of restoring. THe only thing really needing any real work is the engine. THe rest is in great shape(wheels even still have gold anodizing).

Anyway, I am wondering is any other cylinder aside from a 1986 cylinder will fit this engine? If this is the wrong place for this question, can anyone point me in the direction of a technical forum dealing with sure issues?

I think the 86 is the same as the 83,84,85,86 and 87 engine (aside from mild porting changes and such. I had a 83 and that thing was really fast. But it also had porting/head work and a DG pipe/silencer.

Wish I still had that bike today, just for collection reasons. I miss that bike, I really do.

So, asside from porting changes, the 83-87 head should work on an 86 bottom end?

I know that the piston stuff is all the same from 83-87....

OK, here is what I have discovered so far.

THe piston, rod, bottom end, crank case are the same for an 83-87, therefore I would assume that the cylinder from an 84 should work on an 86 bike. I am new to mechanics on older bikes so straighten me out if this is an incorrect assumption.
