fly wheel weight

Recommended Posts

Can someone tell me the benefit of puting on a heavier fly wheel weight please?

Thanks

I am asking for my girlfriends CRF250. People have suggested it before but never really explained why.

A heavier flywheel weight will make the engine more reluctant to change speeds (think of a "heavy" merry-go-round versus a "light" one). With a heavier flywheel weight, the engine will be less likely to stall at low speeds, will rev more slowly (more smoothly) and will be slightly less responsive to throttle input. I've read that an additional benefit is easier starting. A heavier flywheel is most beneficial to those who have trouble with stalling at low speeds and those who want to tone down the "hit" and "snappiness" of an engine.
