Power Valve help!!!

Recommended Posts

Have a question: (2003 RM85L)

Took the cover off the powervalve cuz im doin a top end and i dis connected the rod from arm that sticks off the valve, the rod moves up and down freely. Should their be any resistance to push down or pull that rod up? because if you pull it up it falls down freely, the arm move freely too, CAN SOMEONE TELL ME IF THIS IS NORMAL??? :ride::applause::applause::thumbsup:

Thx in adv!

I dont have a clue of which part your talking about, the part thats connected to the actual moving powervalve(in cylinder) or the rod that comes from bottom end? the rod(from bottom end) should have resistance against pulling it up. the Part that it connects to(in cylinder) should move freely up and down. it usually has a spring of some sort that returns it to closed when the bikes at low revs/throttle. This is a question thats hard to explain. Tell me if it helped

Yes it did, what i was talking about was the rod that came from the bottom end. I took off the side/clutch cover and it appers the rod is connected to a mechanism that is on a bearing which lets it move freely up and down when the motor is off, and i guess when it revs up some how it engages? im not sure but... I did figure out that the return spring was broken and it was letting the slide (which protrudes into the exaust port when at low rpms) stay in the up position, not closing off the exhaust port at all, there fore giving it nothing down low.

So have you fixed the problem? Yea that spring is an IMPORTANT part, i guess mine is a bit different. The rod has resistance against pulling it up when the engines off, they change powervalve designs so often its hard to keep track, they all about have the same parts and work in the same order though. Give me some more info on your current situation.
