1999 TTR 225 Barely Start? Then Dies...

Recommended Posts

I just bought a TTR 225 and it will barely run. It starts when it is choked, but mostly falls on its face, dieing soon thereafter. It hasn't been ridden in many months, so I thought bad gas was to blame. I added gas, but nothing. Then I changed the plug. It looked horrible, but it still wouldn't run after a new plug. It barely starts with the choke on and will barely run. When I take the choke off it dies. I took the carb apart to look for a plugged main or something but found nothing. Anybody got any ideas for me? I am not too familiar with these TTRs. I tried to make sense of the carb, but the slide doesn't move with the throttle and I have no idea how it works!!!

Thanks! Any help greatly appreciated.

Ok. Figured it out! It was a plugged pilot. I couldn't find that little bitty pilot! Runs like a champ!

Yeah, its EXTREMELY easy for the 225 pilot to get fouled.

2 top items I've found for the 225 running poorly.

1: clogged pilot.

2: Fouled plug.
