Dislocated shoulder

Recommended Posts

Well today I had a hard crash and ended up dislocaating my shoulder. So i went and had it put back in by a doc and got some pain pills. Well he told me no football for atleast 4 weeks. I think this is a bit long. So how long does it normally take to be back up to riding and physically strong enough to ride and play football?? Thanks for any help, Erick

Umm I'm not sure what degree. All i know is that it was completely out by looking at the x-rays and they said about 4 weeks. I have to go see a bone specialist this week and he has the final say i guess. i'm just pissed off cuz i was riding awesome and I was supposed to start for our first varsity football game of the year next friday night.

Degree's refer to seperated shoulders. Dislocated shoulders are a whole different thing. Seperations are when the two bones on top of your shoulder joint seperate (I think), dislocations are when the arm physically pops out of the should socket and stays out until somebody puts it back in for you. Both of my shoulders dislocate and I have learned to live with it. If you can play football again in 4 weeks you should be thanking the man in the sky that you weren't injured too badly. If you are anything like me it will continue to pop out. I have learned to put mine in by myself, both have been out many times.

Yea mine was dislocated. I'm going to see our athletic trainer today. He said that they're gonna give me a brace to help keep it in place. I hope that it doesn't keep popping out because it's pretty painful!

Yeah should pain sucks. I partially dislocated my shoulder at a race last weekend. I went to the doctor yesterday and he said that since it wasnt a complete dislocation that I could be back on the bike whenever and that I would only have to do PT twice a week for 3 weeks. However, he said if I had completely dislocated it I would have torn cartilage and that would have been much more serious. So if I were you, I would not play this friday.

A guy in my school was in a similar situation but he played anyways. He dislocated his shoulder like 3 times that game. He ended up having to get surgery and he cant play anymore because his shoulder is so prone to dislocating. He also has shoulder pain every morning and he isnt even 18 yet.

Yea playing this week is totally out of the question. I have to go see a specialist on friday to get a brace and find out what i should do to help it rehab quicker. I'm hopin I can play in about 3 or 4 weeks. My coach told me not to even ask to play until the doc clears me so whatever he says goes!
