Recommended Posts

i'm a colorado/western trail rider. i'm looking for new springs & oil plus possibly revalve (if it's worth it)

options i've found:

http://www.werproducts.net/

http://www.lt-racing.com/

http://www.moto-pro.com/Services.asp?strMPSID=FORKREBUILD

http://www.jn-innovations.com/revalve.html

also whose springrate should i trust? race tech or the others? i weigh 165lbs with gear.

I had my forks and shock done by ESP. George is really good, they are in LA though. They were able to get my setup done within 1 week so I could make a Dual Sport ride in Death Valley. Here is their link if you are interested.

I use to weigh the same as you and this is what I run. I'm up to 180lbs before gear now and my suspension is a little soft, time for a diet.

For springs I would suggest stiffer 43-44kg front. Stock rear (10kg) is a little stiff for your weight, a 9kg would be better (especially if you keep the stock valving).

Revalving can make a lot of difference, but IMO the 98-up XR4 has much better stock valving than the 96-97 and is pretty decent with the right springs. My 96s were really harsh and Gold Valves was money well spent.

If you are just doing springs and oil, do it yourself, its very easy. I have a 98 xr400 and i could not beleive the difference in stiffer front springs and atf oil change..

WER did my XR. Re-valve + 1" lift. Truly "works" suspension for your XR.

If you are a woods/enduro rider go with WER. You will not be disappointed.

If your suspension has never been rebuilt, I suggest doing that. Don't just dump the oil out and refill, the bushings wear out and everything needs disassembled to clean.

If your an average mechanic, it's pretty easy to do the forks, the shock is more difficult due to the pressurized nitrogen.
