Street legal conversion on 2004 TE250 done, check out these bulletproof LED signals!

Recommended Posts

When I bought my 2004 Husqvarna TE250 recently, it had a licence plate, and DOT tires... Now it's completely street legal. One of the items for the street legal conversion that took the most time to decide on was the turn signals. I wanted LED signals so they would not have bulbs to burn out, but I also did not want to break the bank, and I did not want THEM to break when I set the bike down, or drove through the woods. I finally found some 8-LED trailer marker lights that are DOT legal on ebay for about $4.50 per light... I then fabricated some aluminum guards for the signals, and was real happy with how things turned out. It would be VERY difficult to smash them...

I also opted for a Baja Designs control switch, I threw on a 1986 Honda XL250R horn, put the stock headlight back on, wired in a rear brake pressure switch, wired in all of the indicator lamps, put on some folding mirrors, and was ready for the road (and legal this time).

Nice job! Let us know how the maiden dirt ride is.

An LED rr brake light would be a good addition too. Stock headlight is wimpy for safety and dark. Did you upgrade the bulb?

I am curious about the headlight upgrade as well. Do you like it better than the Acerbis your bike came with?

The reason I pulled the DHH (non-DOT) and put the stocker back on was only for DOT legal reasons... Perhaps I should look into upgrading the bulb...

Then again, at I only occasionally ride around town at night, and don't usually trail ride at night... So I'm not sure I really need it.

Anyone know the wattage on the stock bulbs? What would you upgrade to? One nice thing about the Baja Designs control switch is that the main switch has 3 positions, Everything off, Everything but lights on (for enhanced charging), and Everything On. Kind of nice.

Is having blinkers in the front one of the requirements in Washington?

I've heard a couple things on that... I don't think turn signals are a requirement at all in Washington, but I'm not sure about at night?

I have them for two reasons: 1. Safety 2. It screams "I'M LEGAL" to the police officer watching you drive by. Less attention from the fuzz is a good thing...
