Tire Conversion Question

Recommended Posts

I have a DRZ-SM and I'm wanting to put a bit more agressive tread for dual sporting on it. Many of the tires I like at americanmototire.com are in standard sizes. I have 120/70 front and 140/60 rear right now.

Will a 4.60 and 5.10 fit front and rear on stock Zook SM rims?

hey BBB how you doin?

check out my garage for pics of my new avon's. So far i've had limited time on the dirt from them but my first impressions are launch and slow speed manuvering is improved while my street grip is unchanged from the dunlops. I have 150 on the rear btw. One thing i have noticed is that the front end feels a tad heavier and is bit less agile slow speed, but now i'm used to it.

I paid around 440 cdn for the pair (brought the rims in as part of the deal and got them mounted...)

Hey, dude!

Yeah, I love the Avons, but I need to accelarate on dirt and decellerate on grass/dirt. Gotta have a little more bite than the Distanziasand still commute every day. When the jumping's done, the Distanzias are my next street tire.

I'm looking at IRC's:

I put out a post about a month ago asking this conversion question and either people don't know any more than I do about tires or I'm invisible.

If I'm invisible, it's off to the bank!!!!

actual tire sizes vary different manufacturers, but you should just be able to convert the inch size to metric to get an idea.

5.10 divided by .03937 = 129.5 mm.

Yeah, I whipped out the ol' calcumulaterr and came up with the numbers... A 5.10 is on the fat side of what is offered out there and if it's section width, would make a nice front tire. If it's rim/bead operational range, it's a good rear.

I'm going to go to a motorcycle shop nearby and ask them "real time".

I'll report what I find out!
