How often should you change the clutch on an xr 400?

How often should i change the clutch on my 400> i ride really hard, lots of single track and hillclimbs. Its also been popping out of gear a little bit when im about to redline, or right after i let out the clutch. Any suggestions?

FWIW, you might take it apart and look at the basket, plates, and springs. Stock springs are pretty weak if you are riding the clutch hard. Might just need a rebuild with heavy duty springs.

Typically you would change clutch plates etc. when the clutch starts slipping which indicates worn clutch plates or fibers, or if it starts hanging up which indicates a worn basket. Do a search here on popping out of gear for other possible problems.
