Carbon build up in my pipe

Recommended Posts

Has anybody ever tried to clean the carbon build up out of their pipe? I have a 88 cr250 with lots of carbon buildup on the inside, I wanted to clean it out with some kind of solvent to see if it would improve performance.

Thanks

Travis

You can decarbonize it by heating the chamber (removed from the bike), and gently tapping it with a blunt object. The carbon will flake and fall out

EZ Off oven cleaner will loosen the build up to where you can rinse it right out. Tdub

Would you still need to heat the pipe, or spray it in a cold pipe?

I have actually hung mine up outside and carefully burned it out with my propane torch. Be forewarned though, it will make a LOT of smoke...the oven cleaner has to be a good method too. I clean my exhaust valve with it, the O.C. makes light work of it and eats all the carbon off nicely.
