Need 91 YZ250 carb help

Recommended Posts

I just picked up a 91 YZ250,and it has had several problems.First one was a very erratic attempt to idle, where the idle would shoot up and wind out like it had a mind of its own.I figured it was a lean problem,so after many carb cleanings,I replaced the crank seal behind the stator and it fixed that problem. But,I still can't get it to idle.....It is real smooth, but even with the idle screw all the way in,it just wont get high enough to stay running. With the throttle I can hold it at a very nice idle,no racing or coughing, but when I let go it dies.I verified that the adjuster does extend into the carb and it does raise the slide up and down.Does this point to a pilot jet? Or maybe a plugged passage in the pilot circuit?Any one have any ideas?

I took the air screw out as far as 3 or 4 turns, and it was still not high enough.Does that mean the pilot is too small,or maybe plugged up?
