DRZ 400s lowering

Recommended Posts

I'm a trail rider who until now hasn't had a bike with any real suspension or travel. Just took my new to me, '02 DRZ400s and my buddies '06 DRZ (beginning rider) up to the Sierras where I've ridden the logging roads and granite for 20 yrs. The only problem we had with the bikes was reaching the ground while crawling around on the big rocks. Actually, we both reached the ground but not feet first. So we want to lower the bikes and sacrifice some travel, probably 1 1/2". The question is this, is there any revalving or other work on either the forks or shock that these bikes would benefit from while I have the units apart for shortening. I'm having a local shock specialist do the work but would like to go in with any bike specific info in hand when I talk to him? Thanks for anyones input, Mark

Just a little more info for prior post, bikes are pretty much stock except for skid plates, case guards, 606s, bars, gearing. We both stand 5'9" and weigh 160 and 175# respectively ready to ride.and are tight trail and fast logging road and slow rock type riders, don't get much air unless I gasp a lot. Mark

Same problem here 08 Drz. 9 out of 10 falls are because of it. Hard ride, rocks logs, hills bring it! no problem , go to stop and take in

view at top or wait for friend and I fall over cause feet barely touch and lose balance, 6' 185lbs. Just bought 09 and dont want to beat it up like my 08. I think maybe I need to lower.
