After racing...shins and Calves, ITCH BAD!!

Recommended Posts

DNDave, after I ride or race, my shins and calves itch really bad too. I will scratch them until they bleed to stop the itching. Iv'e tried no socks, different socks, but to no avail. Medicated cream will help, but next time I ride, it's the same thing agian.

I wear a pair of CTi2 braces when I ride. With the cotton blend liners and the neoprene liners that came with the braces (as well as my own compression shorts), my legs will itch just like your descriptions...I too, can and have scratched till bleeding. My wife lost the cotton liners for my braces, so I bought a pair of 661 long thin moto socks to wear under my braces last ride. Afterwards, no itching.

I have no doubt that mine was caused by the liners and brace straps....but if you aren't wearing knee braces, I would be inclined to guess it was vibration related. Have either of you tried applying something like Cortaid or Lanacane before riding? Maybe a talcum type powder? I've seen stranger...know one rider that wears Kotex MaxiPads in his helmet to absorb sweat....no feces.

(Although Sir Balls o' Fur's recommendation of Vagasil was funny as hell, I don't think I'd be willing to go through all the riding buddies humiliation!)

? You're half right. In order to itch from the bike's vibration, the bike actually has to run. No running, no vibration, no itching...yep, the green itchless wonder! :applause:

Now...back in your closet! :applause:

:applause: Hahaha, that was a good one. I itch a little, but just because my legs finally are getting some fresh air and stuff, not so bad where I bleed.

When I race my 2003 CRF450...that night and the next couple of days my shins and calves itch BAD!! I have tried every MX sock from alpinestar to Thor. I wear a new pair of Tech 6's and am a very clean person too. Has anybody encountered this?? It must me the socks but why?

Even though you're a clean guy, Motocross racing involves getting very sweaty and dirty. The first two things that come to my mind are:

1) Allergic Reaction to something in your boots, or socks (Laundry detergent, maybe?)

2) Fungal Infection. I'd spray down your boots and legs w/an anti-fungal spray before and after each ride.

The itching is from incresed circulation in your legs, maybe go for a run once and a while. The same thing will happen again untill your body gets used to the extra blood flow in the area. My wife is a heart specialist she was the one that said to tell you to go for a run now and then. sorry

  • 3 weeks later...

Thanks for your responses and opinions. As for the circulation theory, I next to my senior Motocross racing I am very into Mtn. biking...so not a cardio issue. I raced at Glen Helen Vet-X and I put powder in my boots and took my boots off between Motos.

Late that afternoon same problem...... that night I was looking at the inside of my Tech 6s and I noticed the boot size tag had a reddish color. So my thoughts were my red Thor core pants? Maybe the dye with my sweat was the problem. I washed them in "Hot" water instead of cold and the water was "Pink" in the machine....hopefully the dye with sweat may be an issue......tried everything else...... Dave
