is the 04 a good bike?/

new to the 250f forum. thinking of getting one. found a deal on a barely used 2004 crf250 . were there any issues with them, how about handleing and such.

most likely your valves are going to go south quicker then the 2006-07 because of new valve seat material other then that there were very few just small changes, except the dual pipes other then that it was all fine tuning

No problems out of mine. I've only adjusted the exhaust valves two times since Dec 03. I believe alot has to do with break-in and maintenance. Check it over well before you buy and you should be good.

Basically, yes, it's horrible.

The 05-07 models are awesome though ? . I don't care how well it handles, I sold mine because I could not replace the valves fast enough and even lost an entire top end to a broken valve stem . If you're buying a used bike because of price, it's better to pay up front for a more reliable ride.

I had no problems with my 04 or 05.

Not having any trouble with my 04, if the valves are a concern just put an 06 head on it.

son has had his 04 since dec/03 took the bike home set the valves up tight after the first ride and they have not moved in over 2.5 years. i think the maint. has a lot to do with the valves. just mt .02 ?

I have to HONESTLY say your full of crap. It handles awsome the 04 was the same as the 05 except a differennt hub, my valves on my 04 are the original valves i got the orignal piston nothing wrong at all with a 2004 Id take my 2004 CRF over any yamaha, my CRF has never let me down always got me home roosting up the trails

Mabey I just got a lemon or something. changed the oil every other ride. air filter every ride and checked the valves every 10 hours till they went out...after one season in the desert.

Because I had the 04 for a year and a half and it was time for a new bike. The 04 had over 120 hours on it when I sold it.

My 05 just hit 102 hours.

Not sure what I'm getting next but I'm leaning towards the 07.

I have had my 04 ght it used and have been very meticulous on maintanance. Haven't had a problem with mine, atleast not yet. Its a rock solid bike when taken care of.
