the next (jetting) step?

I've been fine-tuning the off-idle response on my fcrmx, and thanks to all the help I've gotten here it's pretty durn close. But not perfect; still a cough here and there. So here's what I've done: replaced the EMM needle with a EMN, clip in the 3rd slot. It's got a 38 pilot, 5/8th turn on the PAS, and 2 turns out on the fuel screw. My question: what should be the next step in this process? Close the fuel screw a bit? Drop the needle (2nd slot)? Go smaller on the pilot? Or is one approach as good as any other? Carbs baffle me...

Thanks again!
