Miniscus Surgery Recovery Question for Dr. Mark

Dr. Mark,

Just had Arthroscopic surgery to repair Torn Meniscus, and was looking at starting to ride again after a 6 year layoff. Surgery was done on 9/20/06. I was wondering how long I should wait before starting to ride again? Also what might be the best course of rehab to prepare my body for riding(i.e. exercisisesand so forth) I am 47 years old, active and was in good shape. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

did they repair or remove the torn portion?

They removed the torn pieces and some arthuritis clean up.

We encourage folks to start walking without crutches immediately after surgery. We rehab folks on the stationary bike, one hour per day, everyday. Most riders with such a surgery are riding again by two weeks.
