Dealer Cost ???

Are you serious, come on now. Not only is it posted all over on here, but it is non of anyones business except the dealer...

No, it does not vary by quantity. The only thing that might vary is flooring terms.

And if retail is $6900, then cost is around $5900-$6000.

But what does it matter? Do you expect a dealer to sell it to you for that?

I heard that dealer is around $5300, not sure though

get this, yesterday, a friend of mine went to a shop in Corona California, they have a 07 KX450f, they want $8000 for it they must be wiffing chemicals over there :devil:

i can promise you there is not $1600 worht of mark up in dirtbikes. after the dealer gets done paying freight there is more like 600

I don't usually pay more than $100.00 over cost on any of My race bikes. I am sure the prices are posted elsewere but didn't want to waste My time searching them out. Thank's for the help.......

Well, dealer cost is fairly easy to figure out. The dealer gets a 15% profit margin, with a 3 - 5% holdback, which they don't get till the end of the model year (usually at the dealer shows in Sept/Oct) So again, if you take $6900 - 15% = $5900(approx). NO dealer counts the holdback in their dealer pricing. Thats purely to ensure that the dealer can make something on the bike should they have to sell it cheap.

Then you have to figure in some freight charges and some set up time (and not the over inflated freight and setup fees a lot of dealers charge) and you have a true dealer cost of around $6100.

And depending on how long the bike sits in inventory, there can be flooring charges as well, which can eat up ones profit in a hurry.

So that gives the dealer about a $800 profit to work with, depending on what they charge for F&S on the retail end, if any.

So now you know

well i know the kx250f is either 5249 or 5349, so i doubt the 450f is 5300.

And at the end of the model year, Kawasaki gives the dealer incentives to move out last years models, which is why you see super low prices in Oct.

I believe that $5300 is the discounted price (Dealer) for existing '06s.

The '07s gonna cost the shop around 6 grand(+)...if you think the shop should sell it to you for that, you're an idiot.

Especially for an Early Release Unit! :devil:

And when you "Think" you really are gettin' for cost, well, are you?

Hold-backs, Back-Side/End-Build Incentives, Attrition-n-Volume Scales...

There's SO MANY ways that they get compensated...

Treat your local shop right and expect the same outta them.

PERIOD.

Sorry if this seems a lil' harsh. Some of you guys don't seem to understand what it takes to run a business or get a sponsor.

It takes a LOT of WORK!

I think your email has been a long time coming, and is spot on!

There are to many people trying to get something for nothing and it makes it hard on all those who really are trying to support shops and the industry.

I whole heartily agree. I only posted the "formula" for dealer cost so people would see how little a dealer really makes on a $7000 motorcycle. They are entitled to their profit. The salesman has to make a commission. If someone is fortunate enough to get a bike at dealer cost, or some where close to that, great. Your are one of a chosen few. But the general public should NOT expect to get a bike for that, ESPECIALLY at the start of the model year. Sure, when a bike has been sitting there for 6 months or more, and there are some dealer incentives, then one could get one for dealer cost, or maybe below. MAYBE. But even then, the dealer is entitled to make a profit.

Bottom line, if the dealer feels inclined to sell one cheap, for whatever reason, great. But one shouldn't just expect a dealer to do so just because you think they should.

      Hey guys, I have a 2012 KX450f and it is giving me major issues. I will give you a run down of the history of it. I bought this bike a few months ago and have only ridden it really once, yes once! When I bought it everything seemed to check out, it ran fine, started fine, sounded fine, so I bought it. Took it out to ride and the first hill I hit it got really hot and overheated like a SOB and spewed coolant everywhere. I thought to my self maybe it was because we were riding trails slow before so maybe when I actually got on it it got too hot. After that though, it began to overheat every 3 minutes no  matter what, I would ride it for 3 minutes, and have to stop to let it cool down because I was scared I was going to melt the top end. Got home and started inspecting, found out that oil and coolant was mixing both where the oil is supposed to be and where the coolant is supposed to be. After some research I found that the 2012 450 had head gasket issues. Assuming that was the issue, I took the head off and got it resurfaced (it was actually decently warped) and put new gaskets in everything top end related. Piston and cylinder looked brand new by the way. So I put it back together, started it up, and it instantly started spewing coolant and oil mixed out of the crank case breather hose. Like literally as soon as i started it and it would make a puddle on the ground in 10-15 seconds. I'm at a loss here, brand new coolant and brand new oil, brand new head gasket and resurfaced head, and it instantly started doing the same thing again? What could it be? Is it worth my time or do I part the bike out? I have put way too much time into this bike to want to tear back into it again unless it is something cheap to fix, if not I am going to post it on craigslist and let someone else deal with it. Overall this whole experience makes me want to go back to a 250T! XD

      Ive just bought a cheap kx450f with what i thought would be a minor issue.
      I was told it was only running with the choke on and i thought easy fix, just a blocked jet. So i pulled it apart as must of the person before me and i find a broken soround thing that the plastic case sits on around the pilot jet. So i appoxy that back on unblock the jets and clean it all out, put it back together and now i try starting it for the first time and see the fuel dripping as it was when i bought it. When i look closer i see it is seeping from what looks like a crack in the float bowl. Ahhh
      So my problem is. Looking for a cheap carby might solve all my problems or just a float bowl at worse case. Now i can find many kx450f being wrecked nearby so im wondering are most 450 carbys the same? Will one of a yz450f work? 
      Can someone please help

      I missed tracking where this little top hat came out of in my 2011 kx450f. Was thinking clutch or right side engine cover. Any help would be appreciated I can’t seem to find it in the manual.
